Blog #1
Hey there guys, what’s up? In case you are clueless as to who I am, my name is Annie Gaburo. I am a freshman at Mariemont High School, and I’ve been coming to VI since I was a little seventh grader. Also, I’ve never had a blog before, so you will have to put up with me for a little bit until I get the hang of this.
Well…let’s see, what went on at VI this past week? Wednesday night was another packed house, we had tons of people attend, and I even saw some new faces! I love to meet new people, so don’t be surprised or alarmed if I randomly introduce myself to you. I don’t bite, I promise.
On Saturday night, a group of VIers went down to Newport to go to USS Nightmare. After having to call and wait for another driver to come and drive (we had an unexpectedly large amount of people that wanted to go, so we needed another car in order to fit everybody), we finally got on the road at 9:00. I drove in Acheson’s car, and we blasted Jack Johnson the entire way (yes, I know, you’re jealous). After we hopelessly traversed the streets surrounding Newport for a good fifteen minutes trying to find the parking lot, we finally reached our destination around 9:30. It took every bit of convincing in order to get Katie Keiser to even get out of the car, much less get on the boat. But finally, after much anticipations, and lots of: “I’m SO SCARED!”, we got to get on the USS Nightmare.
The only person who had ever been on this haunted boat before was Sam Franer. Everyone else, including me, was clueless as to what to expect. So as we climbed up a ramp into a dimly lit room with strobe lights flashing, I must admit, I was absolutely terrified. We formed a line as we went into the haunted house, and Lanie Frayer (whose shoulder I buried my head whenever strobe lights appeared) was in front of me, and Katie K was behind (She clutched my elbow and three of Acheson’s fingers for the whole entire ride, and didn’t let go). At first, I was scared of every little thing that popped out at me, and I pretty much screamed at anything and everything. But as the attraction went on, it became less frightening and more funny. Katie K and I said “HEY THERE!” to all the scary people that were planted periodically throughout the boat in order to spook and creep you out, and instead of screaming so much, I tried to laugh. Because when you think about it, it wasn’t real. The people that worked there couldn’t touch you, and it’s not like anything bad was actually going to happen to you, so why not enjoy yourself? Though I must admit, when we had to climb through a pit of plastic balls with these two scary people dressed up as clowns, grinning at us, I still got very creeped out.
After a long thirty minutes, we were done with the terror and walked off of the boat. I, for one, was very proud that I actually went to USS Nightmare and went through it without totally losing it. Because if you know me, you’ll know that I am a really big sissy, and EVERYTHING scares me (I screamed in the PG rated movie, “Flicka”…that says a lot). But I did it, and so did everyone else. And you know what? It was actually really fun! It all goes to show that if you try something that you are really scared of, you could actually end up liking it!
So I hope to see everyone this Wednesday, because there is no SGM this week. Laura Gardner, Katie Keiser, Maddie Barnhill, Laura Martin and I invited our fellow floutist named Taylor to come this week, so if you see him this week, be sure to say hi!
I hope everyone has a good week at school! Love you guys!
